Job Description

We are looking for a Technical Artist to bridge the gap between our art and development teams.
You will create and implement visual effects, set up technical assets and solve problems within Minecraft Bedrock’s resource pack and entity systems. This includes writing Molang, configuring render controllers, setting up animation controllers and building effects that respond to gameplay.
The role is practical and implementation focused. You should be comfortable working directly with JSON files, debugging content in game and finding solutions within Minecraft’s technical limitations.

Responsibilities
<aside>
Technical Art and Implementation
- Write and maintain complex Molang expressions, queries and variables.
- Set up render controllers, animation controllers, materials and entity definitions.
- Implement models, textures, animations and other art assets in game.
- Create stylised particle effects and other gameplay responsive visual effects.
- Connect visual states and animations to entity behaviour and gameplay conditions.
- Work with developers to implement features that require both artistic and technical input.
- Build reusable systems and templates where appropriate.

Required Skills
- Strong pixel art skills to create hand drawn 2D animated sprites and flipbook textures.
- Strong technical problem solving and debugging skills.
- Experience working with real time visual effects, technical art or gameplay driven animation systems.
- Comfortable working with JSON or similar structured data formats.
- Excellent understanding of particles, animation systems, materials and rendering.
- Able to understand and write mathematical expressions used to control visual behaviour.
- Able to balance visual quality with performance and technical limitations.
- Comfortable learning custom tools and workflows.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Able to communicate clearly with both artists and developers.
- Experience using version control in a production environment.

Testing and Optimisation:
- Test assets and effects directly in Minecraft Bedrock.
- Debug issues involving rendering, animations, particles, materials and entity setup.
- Use Minecraft’s content logs and other debugging tools to identify problems.
- Optimise effects and assets to perform well across supported platforms.
- Ensure implemented content works correctly in multiplayer and different gameplay conditions.
- Fix visual bugs and technical issues found during development or QA.

Team Support
- Work with artists to make sure assets are created in a format that can be implemented correctly.
- Work with animators to set up animation states, transitions and gameplay driven behaviour.
- Work with developers on entity logic and technical requirements.
- Document systems and technical setups so they can be maintained by the wider team.
- Help improve internal tools, templates and production workflows.
